If you are like most, you probably keep an eye out for savings all the time, whether it’s in your personal life or for business. Savings comes in many forms. There are ways to save money, time, our environment, energy, and so much more. The question is, what solutions are available to you to achieve these savings? If you’re in the business of packaging a product or products, bundling your products with the process of banding could be your solution. One thing you’ll see here is that it’s all about asking yourself the right questions that you can probably answer on your own.
- Analyze Your Product
Just like savings comes in many forms, so do products. Take a look at your product(s) to determine how you are currently bundling them, and whether they are being bundled in the most efficient way possible.
- Evaluate Your Current Process
Write down each piece of the puzzle: What packaging materials are you currently using, and how are they applied to your product? Are you using plastic, paper, cardboard, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, etc. Are they being applied by hand, machinery, or automation? In what configuration are your products stacked – 2x2, 3x3, 2x6, etc.?
- Identify End Packaging Goals
What is it that you need to achieve with your packaging? It all comes down to your product and what it requires. Is it durable, or fragile? Identify if it requires a stronger or looser hold, what type of protection is needed, etc. Then take a look at the end user and what their guidelines are.
- Determine Where You Have Excess Packaging
What, if any, materials are unnecessary? Often times, items come packaged in more materials than needed. And sometimes the materials being utilized are not the greatest substance. For example, your product may need to be packaged in some form of plastic, but could you be using a thinner form of plastic?
- Contact a Packaging Expert (or as we like to call them – “Wex”perts!)
Here at Wexler, you can trust us to help you answer all of these questions to determine what your best solution is. If it is not banding, maybe it is something else. We take pride in steering you in the right direction.
- Keep an Open Mind
If banding isn’t the right path for you, we’ll let you know. But if we see that banding is the solution you need, we won’t just tell you, we’ll show you. We love receiving your samples to band for you. By sending us your samples, you can hold and touch the final product. It’s one thing to imagine it, but it’s another to see and feel what you are investing in to ensure it feels right.
- Reap the Benefits
Using banding material to replace materials such as inner cartons, shrink wrap, poly-bags, etc., can not only reduce waste going into the environment, but it can also pass on significant cost-savings. Take shrink wrap for example. Not only would you save on the material itself, but you save on the energy exuded from a shrink tunnel. If you decide to take it a step further and band with automation, you may even find that you can repurpose labor elsewhere.
